I have been wanting to get to Amelia Island for a few years and this year I did it. If you are considering it and doing it on an Oppo budget I have some recommendations.
Stay at the Jacksonville Airport Hotels, this event takes place during Daytona Bike Week and the Week before TPC Sawgrass, the airport is out of the way of those events and near Amelia island. When it comes to parking at the event, park in the $20.00 Amelia Island Airport lot, no beach traffic, easy in and out and it is the cheapest paid lot.
This is the Parking lot, there is one extremely rare car in this picture can you spot it?
Now on to the cars, Amelia Island has some interesting classes, this year Cars of Rock Stars, Indy Innovation, and Cars of State. The bad news is my trusty Sony Carl Wiess point and shoot camera’s battery wouldn’t take a charge and of course I didn’t check it in enough time to get a replacement. So Phone it is.
This is what greets you right inside the gate, I thought Wagners the Entrance to Valhalla should be playing but it was Jazz. Now onto the Sh
The overload of things you never see has just started
This Aston Martin has an Alter to the Prince of Darkness.
Abe Fromann the Valet has your car
Pffft just a couple of Super Rare Ferraris and a Porsche nothing special
Couple of Shelby’s and his Arch Nemisis
Cars of Rock Stars, these were really hard to phot0graph as the crowds were deep here
Tucker # 44, I’m trying to see every Tucker I can this makes the 20th different Tucker I’ve seen in person.
Not everything there was extremely rare or even six figures. Avantis and Desotos are not common but they are also not out of reach of a collector with and extra 50-80k laying around.
The Penske P23, the car that almost killed Indy Car racing.
Turbines and Diesels at Indy, those were the days.
Jacky Ickx was the Honoree this year here are some of the cars he drove another group that was hard to photograph
Nothing Special just more Porsche racers in one place than I’ve ever seen
A European Escort Rally car and 2 of Penske’s racers
Presidential Limousine built for Ike, was also right behind Kennedy’s car in Dallas.
A couple of Cadillacs built for the Pope
A couple of Gull Wings and Bugatti to wind it down.
Overall if you have the chance, Go! these are just some of the pictures I took and there was lots more to see. The tickets are a bit Pricey at $100 but it is worth it. Not a Time Out Doll, Drive in Tray with Plastic Food or Boom Box play Doo Wop in sight.
